21st Century Learner

Welcome

Students entering college now have always known a world with computers and other technological conveniences.  They are accustomed to using cell phones, computers, and other modern technologies as an everyday part of life.  Thus, how they communicate, locate and gather information, and interact with others is influenced by these new technologies.  How they learn is likewise influenced by those same technologies.  In fact, all learners in the 21st Century are influenced by technologies and the learning environment.  All learners are 21st Century learners.

In April of 2005, Southeast hosted a campus conference on the 21st Century Learner, "Teach Your Student - Teaching the 21st Century Learner".  Diana Oblinger, Vice President of Educause, presented a keynote address describing these learners.  The conference focused on recognizing characteristics of these students with strategies to recognize and respond to the needs of the new generation of learners, as well as current learners in our technology-enabled world.

This spring, we are hosting a follow-up conference, "Reach Your Student - Teaching the 21st Century Learner".  For two full days February 28 & March 1 a variety of sessions covering different aspects of reaching the 21st century learner will be held.  Come join us in learning about the 21st Century Learner.  Hear from Julie Little from Educause and Tomas Lipinski from UW Milwaukee, hear from your colleagues, here from our students, hear from local K-12 faculty.  Join in the discussion.  Mark your calendars now!  Don't forget to attend.
