Building SoTL Communities is one of twelve thematic clusters
operating under the auspices of the
Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
(CASTL) Institutional Leadership Program. The cluster consists
of seven colleges and universities, representing three countries on
two continents. Its mission is to develop a sense of community
among and between institutions of higher learning, structured around
a shared commitment to the scholarship of teaching and learning.
The specific objectives it strives to attain by May of 2009 can be
found on the Agenda and
Initiatives page.
One of the key features of this site--and of the cluster's
efforts-- is the index of SoTL research
available to the user. What began as raw database
of SoTL projects has emerged as a searchable inventory of research
performed by the faculty of member institutions. In
furtherance of the mission of building SoTL communities, the index
reveals the diversity of projects, faculty, disciplines, interests,
and outcomes associated with the scholarship of teaching and
learning.
Another feature of this site is the index of programmatic
developments of member institutions. Much as the Projects
section is intended to stimulate and enhance the work of individual
faculty, the programs section is dedicated to sharing information
about the centers that oversee SoTL work on our respective campuses.
By sharing programmatic information we hope to enhance the
development, strength, and stability of centers dedicated to the
scholarship of teaching and learning.
Please feel free to navigate this page, to view the work of member
institutions, and to use whatever may be of interest to you in
furtherance of SoTL endeavors.
