Welcome to the CSTL's online
demonstration class. These pages will show you some of the technologies that are available to you, as an
instructor, for use in a class Web site. This site was created using a combination of commercial tools (such as Microsoft FrontPage and Macromedia Flash) and tools developed internally at
this university to provide interactivity for web-based and web-supported classes.
To browse this
Web site, you will need a student account. Choose a number
between 1 and 30 and make up your username and password as
follows:
|
Username |
Password |
|
UserN |
pwN |
|
N is a number
between 1 and 70 (inclusive). |
With
this username and password, you will be able to get to all of the
course features using the links on the upper left.
A Brief Description of the Organization of This Web Site
The student's first stop
would probably be the Course Description page. In your class
web site, that page should not be password-protected, as it
must be accessible to prospective students who want to find out
more about the course being offered. Unlike the Course
Description page, which contains general information about the
course, the Class Information page contains class-specific
information that is geared towards enrolled students. The
Class Information page is usually password-protected, but that is
entirely optional.
The next stop is the Class
Content page, which contains class materials and links to
documents, web sites, and assignments to be submitted by
students online. Instructors can organize that page in many
ways: chronologically, by unit or chapter, by topic, etc. In
this demonstration course, the Class Content page will take you to
the pages on various instructional materials. If you click on the
first heading (What can a course web page do?), you will enter a
series of pages that can be visited in order.
The other links that are
accessible from most pages in this site are: the calendar;
the bulletin board, where students can "talk" and interact with
the teacher and peers; the tests and quizzes area, where
they can take online tests; the gradebook, where students
can check their grades any time; the drop box area, used to
exchange electronic files; the edit account page, that can
be used to change one's email or password on record; and finally
the logoff link.
Click on the links on the
left-side menu to start navigating this web site. You can
walk through all the different types of instructional materials
available. Or, if you prefer, you can "cherry-pick" by selecting
topics you're interested in from the Class Content page. If
you do, though, please be sure to hit at least steps 6-10 (They're
marked with stars on the Class Content page). Try out the
various features demonstrated on the pages. If you have questions
or need help, ask one of the TEW facilitators or CSTL technical
staff.
