Summer 2003

Communities of Practice

Showcase Session

May 20 & 21

This session is broken down into two main components.  The first is a tour through a set of pages showing what course Web pages can be used for, and what can go on them.  The module starts off very basic but leads to demonstrations of Flash, JavaScript, animated images and other learning supporting Web page components.  This is a work at your own pace module.  Go ahead and go through the site.  If the first few pages are pretty basic, go ahead and skim them and move on.  We will allow roughly 30 minutes for this portion of the workshop.

The above module is really more of a technical showcase.  Those items are components that can go on a Web page.  They also represent items supported by CSTL.  What they don't do is give you a direct idea when and where those should be used.  That is more of a pedagogical question.  It is obviously the more pertinent question as well.  In the next section, we want to prompt discussion on the pedagogy of Web-supported teaching.  This is harder to do in a simple module.  Below is a short session with some links.  Go ahead and poke through that.  We will talk about these items as we go.
