Back CALENDAR
This page contains the instructions for the Calendar exercise for the workshop. The purpose of this exercise is to explore two ways to place hyperlinks into a Calendar entry. The ability to place hyperlinks into Calendar entries is a key to placing course content into the Calendar.
Use the address listed below to place links on course pages within the "protected" folder of the Website.
Calendar: /ois-bin/calendarsrv/calendarsrv.dll
1. Open Calendar either from the desktop or from the launch icon in Manager.
NOTE: If requested, enter your password which is your SE Key and the same password you use for your e-mail.
2. Go to the File menu and select New (you can also do this by typing Ctrl-N at the same time).
3. Select the class for which you will create a calendar.
4. Provide your calendar with a File Name. (Note: the calendar's file name will have a ".oic" file extension.)
5. You will see the current month's calendar, with the current day highlighted. Select a day by clicking on it. From the Edit menu, click on "+ Add Item". (Note: you can also get "+ Add Item" by right-clicking on the date).
6. Fill in the Calendar Item Entry window, including the "Link to" boxes at the bottom. The main white area in the middle can contain course content. Click for examples of course content in Calendar entries.
7. You can also author content in SharePoint Designer (or FrontPage) and copy/paste into the Calendar Item Entry's white area. Be careful, though: relative addresses for hyperlinks will not work correctly; you need to use absolute links.
8. Click on the Browser tab within Calendar to see the Monthly View, including your course content Item.
8. You can now exit Calendar.
Congratulations, you have successfully completed this exercise.
