This page contains the instructions for the Forum exercise for the workshop.  The purpose of this exercise is to create a "meet and greet" introduction that will get students accustomed to responding to classmates in a threaded discussion. The exercise is called "Two Truths and a Lie": ask every student to introduce him/herself to the class with a brief bio. Leave it up to the student to decide (within the limits of your class conduct code, if you have one) how personal to be, but encourage the student to include two truths and a lie in the bio. Then, ask the other students to try to guess the lie. You will be surprised at the level of interaction that this simple assignment generates!

1. Open Forum either from the desktop or from the launch icon in Manager.

NOTE:  If requested, enter your password which is your SE Key and the same password you use for your e-mail.

If you have not previously used Forum in your class, you may get a message.

2. Complete the Forum Properties window.

3. Find the New Discussion button and click it.

4. Complete the Discussion Properties window.

5. Find the New Topic button and click it.

6. Complete the Topic Properties window. Make sure you can enter your "Two Truths and a Lie" assignment into the Description area in the Topic Properties window.

Note: After the Topic Properties window is completed, you can return to the window to edit the Topic at any time, by clicking on the Edit Topic button.

7. Click on the Browser tab within Forum to see the Discussion, including your "Two Truths and a Lie" assignment.

8. You can now exit Forum.
