2011 Essay Contest 

Essays must be must be sent by email or postmarked by Wednesday, November 2, 2011 to be considered for this contest. 


Focusing on Millennium Development Goal Eight and the challenge of promoting development through international partnership, students are expected to write a letter to the President of the United States answering the following questions:

(1) How can the U.S. build an international system that promotes good governance, development, and poverty reduction?

(2) How can the U.S. promote sustainable development and economic growth in developing countries?

The paper should be two to three pages long, double spaced using 12 pt font. 

It should include a cover sheet with title, student’s name and school name, and a bibliography with two to four sources. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.

 Judging Criteria

• Contest rules are properly followed.
• The topic questions are adequately answered.
• The essay is well-written and points are clearly stated.
• The essay presents original thought and creative solutions.
