These special awards will be presented at the conclusion of the conference:

Best Flag          Top Costume          Distinguished Delegation


Best Representation of the National Flag

Delegates who wish to enter this competition will submit an official flag of the country they are representing.  To be considered for this award, flags must:

  1. be approximately 2 feet by 3 feet in size; and

  2. be handcrafted and have an identification card on the back stating both the country represented and your school's name.

  3. be unattached to any flag poles, so that it may be mounted for display on the general assembly wall

Best National Costume

Delegates interested in this award should be as authentic as possible. If delegates choose not to dress in national costume, they should wear proper business attire.

Best Delegation

These awards will be given to the best delegations in each committee.

Judging criteria:  This is the criteria that will be given to the dais staff for judging delegate performance.

Knowledge of topic
• Understanding of the topic discussed.
• In speeches, providing insightful information on the topic that is not vague or rehashing points made by a previous speaker.
• Demonstrating an understanding of the country’s stance on the topic.

Remaining in character
• Voting according to country’s position on the issue
• Writing resolutions and delivering speeches that are in accordance with the country’s position.
• Working with nations that are traditional allies.
• Participating in caucuses to the degree that is consistent with the country’s position and power.

Diplomacy
• Keeping decorum at all times.
• Organizing support for favorable resolutions.
• Demonstrating the ability to create consensus.

Participation
• Providing leadership during caucus sessions.
• Submitting resolutions consistent with the country’s stance on the topic.
• Speaking in formal session.
• Submitting appropriate amendments.
• Asking relevant questions during formal session.

Attire
• Appropriate business attire:
          Men – slacks, dress shirt, tie, dress shoes. Suit jacket is recommended.
          Women - slacks or long skirt, blouse, dress shoes.
• Not appropriate – Jeans, sneakers, clothes that may be considered revealing.
• Traditional costume of the country the delegate is representing is considered appropriate attire.
