Resolution Writing and Submission page

<- Back to the high school page

Continuing with the system which was started last year, resolutions are to be submitted before the conference. Resolutions will then be available at the dias when the conference begins.  Students will be able to use the website to determine how their resolution has been named, and then bring it to the floor the day of the conference.   Sufficient copies of each resolution will be made by the SMUN staff so that once the resolution is brought before the body, each delegation will be able to have a copy of it.  However, it is imperative that students look over the resolutions submitted by other students before the conference starts, so that they have an idea of what other delegations are thinking about the issue.

(For example, Suzy Student from John Doe high school submits a resolution to the Security council.  She then goes online and determines her resolution has been given the coding SCA-1.  The day of the conference, she needs merely to motion to bring said resolution to the floor, and the chair of her committee will distribute copies to all delegates in the room.)

**Please note: It will be assumed that all resolutions which are submitted have received the approval of the student's faculty advisor.  In the unlikely event that a resolution is submitted that is deemed, for any reason, to be unacceptable by the staff of SMUN, contact will be made with the faculty advisor ONLY, to inform them of the situation.  SMUN reserves the right to reject resolutions which are off topic, demeaning, derogatory, against the charter of the United Nations, or in any other way go against the spirit of the conference.**

When submitting a resolution please bear in mind that it is only a draft, and will probably be amended while working with other delegations.

To submit a resolution, please download the resolution template from the link below.  Then, email the completed resolution as a word document (.doc) to modelun@semo.edu.   Please include RESOLUTION SUBMISSION in the subject line, and please note the following in the body of the email:

**Resolutions submitted may be edited for format and grammatical errors if any are found.  To avoid having your work changed, please check for any of these problems before submitting resolutions.  While a good faith effort will always be made to retain the spirit and integrity of submitted resolutions, the only way to ensure a resolution will be the exact same as how it was submitted is to ensure it is submitted with no errors.**

**ALL resolutions must be received no later than October 30th 2008 at 5pm.  Any resolution received later than that time and date will not be included in the materials distributed to the dias, and it will be up to the discretion of the individual chairs as to whether or not resolutions not in their materials will be accepted the day of the conference.**

The following are examples of correctly formatted resolutions.  They have been drawn at random from the pool of resolutions submitted for the 2006 conference.  Please review these resolutions as they show the exact way in which the documents are to be formatted.
