Purpose:
The Annual Southeast Missouri State University Student Research Conference encourages research by undergraduate and graduate students in all disciplines, and provides a setting for students to present their work in a professional manner.Dates and Times
: Wednesday, April 16 and Thursday, April 17, 2008. The conference will run from 8:00 a.m. to about 5:00 p.m. on both days and follow the class schedules for both days.Location:
Dempster Hall: Paper Presentations will be occur in Glenn Auditorium ; Poster Presentations will occur in Dempster 102.Program:
Students will present their papers and posters in a conference format. Two or three concurrent sessions will run throughout each day.Types of Works:
Empirical, as well as Theoretical and Review works are invited. Each paper must be sponsored by a Southeast Missouri State University, Mineral Area Community College, or Three Rivers Community College faculty member/instructor. Acceptance of submissions will be based on the validity of the work as a research endeavor appropriate to the particular discipline in which it was conducted (see acceptance criteria).Eligibility:
In order to be eligible for presentation, the paper should be the primary work of an undergraduate or graduate student (or students) with the student(s) listed as the primary author(s) of the submitted paper. All presenters must be students.Submission Deadlines:
Submissions must be made online and RECEIVED by Midnight April 1, 2008. The online instructions include a printable signature page which must be checked and signed by both the faculty sponsor and the primary student presenter, and returned to the SRC-16 committee. Address the signature page to SRC-16, Psychology Department, MS 5700; or drop off to Dr. Rickard A. Sebby, Department of Psychology, Scully 427-G. Signature page is due by Friday, @ 4:30 p.m. April 4, 2008.If you want to present, but NOT COMPETE for Best Paper or Poster:
Submit online and check the appropriate boxes, and turn in your signature page to Dr. Sebby.If you want to submit AND COMPETE for Best Paper or Poster:
In addition to completing the regular submission guidelines by April 1, 2008, and submitting the signature page by April 4, 2008. In addition, by April 13th students wishing to compete should EMAIL their completed paper to Dr. Rickard A. Sebby (rasebby@semo.edu). The paper should not exceed ten pages (not including figures and references). This 10-page submission must be typed no smaller than 12-point font, and double spaced if the project is to be considered for a Best Paper or Best Poster award. The completed paper MUST be received by April 13th in order to be entered in the competition. If the paper is not received by the deadline, the student may present his or her paper at the conference but will NOT be entered in the competition for best Paper or Best Poster. Papers will be judged by an interdisciplinary committee of Southeast faculty and students.Responsibility to Present:
If your research is accepted, you will be notified regarding your presentation time. After that, you or a substitute will be expected to present, except in the case of severe extenuating circumstances. You will be expected to arrive in time for the beginning of your session (same as a normal class period), and to stay for the entire session in which you present. If your paper presentation is accepted, you will be expected to present a talk that lasts for 11-13 minutes, leaving 2-4 minutes for questions from the audience at the end.For More Information:
