Keynote Speaker, Dr. Betsy Levonian Morgan will speak on “Beyond Barbie vs. G.I.
Joe: The Subtleties of Gender Research”
This talk will survey several popular domains of gender difference, including research on aggression, empathy, cognitive abilities, and childhood play patterns. Particular attention will be paid to methodology subtleties that enrich our understanding of the complexities of gender. In addition, she will look at unexpected ways that bias slips into research.
Dr. Morgan has her doctorate from an
interdisciplinary program called Social Ecology from UC Irvine. She is an
associate professor of social psychology at University of Wisconsin - La Crosse
and she chairs the department. She teaches General Psychology, Psychology of
Women, Group Dynamics, Honors, and Social Psychology. She has research interests
in the areas of feminist attitudes, social class perception and college student
career choices. She has co-authored a book entitled "Majoring in Psych?:
Career Options for Psychology Undergraduates."
On a more personal front, she is the mother of identical twin boys and
she resisted the psychologist's urge to have one raised by wolves "just for
comparison."
